York County Ballet

Did you know….

 

• The York County Ballet  is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

 

• Even though the York County Ballet performances are usually completely sold out, performance revenue accounts for less than half of the York County Ballet’s operating budget .

 

• The York County Ballet  has previously been dependent upon the generous support of the United Arts Fund, yet this funding has ceased and the cost of ballet productions increase each year .

 

• The York County Ballet   must raise 100% of its yearly expenses from fundraising programs, ticket sales and contributions.

 

Consider this…

 

• In its 35 year history, the York County Ballet   has performed The Nutcracker over 140 times! And well over 3,200 young dancers have participated in York County Ballet performances!

 

• The York County Ballet   has performed major works of classical ballet every year, and has created several original full-length ballets, including The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Hansel & Gretel, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Beauty and the Beast and Peter Pan.

 

• Each year, dancers from the York County Ballet are selected to participate in national, regional, and local programs .  In the past two years, York County Ballet  dancers have been selected to participate in the American Ballet Theatre, South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, South Carolina Summer Dance Conservatory, Jof- frey Ballet’s performance intensive, and Winthrop’s ST-Arts program!

 

• In past years, the York County Ballet has commissioned outside professional choreog- raphers to create an original work for selected dancers to debut at major dance festivals, such as Atlanta BalletFest, South Carolina Festival of Dance and Piccolo Spoleto . These works have also been included in our original ballets .

 

 

The York County Ballet Guild was formed in 2005 to provide the necessary additional

financial support to the York County Ballet .   The York County Ballet  must rely on the generosity of patrons and fans to continue to provide high quality dance performances in our community .
